What's your picture of God?

We had our weekly cg at Suyin's uncle place last Friday night. Sang one of the favorite worship songs at the moment: Beautiful Savior by Planet Shakers as Suyin led us through worship time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8e9lCxn_IY

Chris then led us through a review of the "Missional Church" vcd. Some key takeaways:
1) The church is the gathering of God's called out people - "Ecclesia"
2) We are called to particpate in Christ work in the world - "Participatio Christi"
3) We need to see all men as people bearing the image of God - "Imago Dei"
We were left with 3 questions to reflect on:
1) Who do you think Jesus is?
2) Where do you see Jesus?
3) Where is Jesus in your life now?

We then, as suggested by the VCD, drew on a piece of blank paper of who Jesus is to us. Here's what we got!

Jesus, the well - the only living water that will quench our thirst

Jesus, the gardener who nourishes & look after us, just like us who water & care for our plants

Jesus, the Sudoko! - the logical God

Jesus, the bright guiding light on the mountain,
where men will follow and believe in Him

Jesus, the King on the throne - where all will be in awe and sing songs of praise all day in heaven

It was refreshing and encouraging to see how God works in everyone's life by the simple sharing. May all of us, as per the cg theme/goal for 2009, walk closer and deeper with God =D

Following God's calling - CG BS 16 Jan 09

Chris led an interesting session of Lectio Divina "divine reading" in last Friday cg meeting, reflecting on the passage of:

Matthew 10: 16-22

16I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
17"Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. 18On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 22All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

3 readings of the same passage was done by different people and after each reading, we are to look out for 1) How Christ the Word speak to ME, 2) What Christ the Word invites me to DO and 3) What I believe God wants me to do today/this week.

It was quite an eye opening session as God, through the same passage, spoke differently to each of us as we went round to share our thoughts. General theme revolves around bearing witness to God & following his calling without fear. It was indeed an encouragement/reminder of God's wonders and awesome power.

We ended the session praying for one another and fellow cg members who can't make it that night due to work commitments or out of town. We also had a good time chilling out together on chiffon cakes and green tea!

It was a great time of fellowship. I have enjoyed myself, hope that it was for you too =)

Ps: Special thanks to Alvin for leading worship! =)

We are all part of the body of Christ!

We had our first CG meeting for 2009 last Friday, giving thanks to God for bringing the cg closer through the S.H.A.P.E program, Captain's ball tournament and My Hope Singapore Christmas outreach event.

Kevin led us through the ice breaker of each one drawing a part of a human body, highlighting the messenge that we are all part of the body of Christ and each of us plays an important role too!

We also went through the exercise of setting both personal and CG goals for 2009 and shared amongst the cg members.
All in all, we commit the new year to God, working towards a year of growing deeper with God!

Donut Party!

Welcome back Dave, Heather and Jonathan!

We had a good turnout & excellent time of fellowship at last Friday's cg meeting . Why?

1) Suyin led us through a wonderful time of worship with upbeat/moving songs like "Hosanna", "All the way my Savior leads me" and "As We Worship You".
2) Kevin, on the back of July Mission Month, guided us through the study of Genesis 12:1-9, making us reflect on the pure faith and obedience of Abraham and encouraging us to use our gifts and resources as a CG to bless other people.
3) We celebrated the birthdays of July babies, Lifen and Chris, with yummy donuts!!

Hope everyone had a good time, I did =)

Surprise Baby shower for Renzi/Zhenghui

We had a surprise baby shower for Renzi/Zhenghui today at CG. Everyone came decked in pink outfits, there were crazy baby-games e.g. changing diapers, baby relays, etc. Everyone had a great time just hanging out and having fun, and appreciating, encouraging and praying for Renzi and Zhenghui and their akan-datang baby. Big thanks and thumbs up for Heather who spearheaded and co-ordinated the whole event.
