3 Cheers for Team Nergy - "We are more than conquerors..." Rom 8:37‏

A pleasant miracle happened this afternoon on the basketball courts of Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School. Our “Team Nergy” took part in the Young Adults Captain’s Ball competition and emerged as Champions. A worthy note is that out of the 12 teams competing, we’re the second oldest group, besides the Pastors’ team.

Yes, it is true indeed! We came, we played and we conquered! It was a hard-fought victory against younger and faster opponents who counted basketball players on their roll-call. The sun was scorching hot at about 1 pm before the games began. However, when the games commenced, it seemed as if God had held an umbrella of clouds over KCPSS to shield all of us from being BBQed like lobsters. And though there were dark clouds looming over the school, the Lord mercifully held back the raindrops until we had completed the Grand Finals. Our team won the 1st prize of a $100 Sakae Sushi Voucher (a timely gift from God for our completion of S.H.A.P.E. CG celebration).

Honorary Awards:

“The Wall” Dave Mann - for blocking just about every shot attempt and kept our scores looking impressive. If there was a Great Wall in Bartley. Dave would be the “Mann”

“Super-Defender” Lye Deming – for his energetic blocking moves around opponents and gravity-defying interceptions of high passes.

“Star-Striker” Fannie’s Cousin – an energetic 15-yr old who also happens to be a sharp-shooter in Captain’s Ball.

“Super-Striker” Nathalyn – for gamely planting herself at the frontline and snatching balls from opponents to score for our team.

“Mama-Striker” Rentze – for proving conclusively that motherhood has no adverse effect on a person’s athletic prowess. She ran all over the courts and demonstrated great skills both in defending and scoring. She managed to run circles around our opponents despite losing her “soles” midway thru the competition. I quote a bad pun by Dave “We had saved her sole”, when one of Rentze’s runaway sole flew across the court in front of us sitting by the sidelines.

“RARA Queens” Fannie & Jiayee – for inventing loud and colorful cheers at the sidelines to provide much needed RARA support to our hard-playing team members.

“Magneto” Zhenghui – who seems to have a magic magnet in his hands, any ball that touches his fingers will be drawn into the center of his palms. He was able to hold on to the balls despite heroic attempts by the athletic defenders to block him. All we had to do was lob a ball in the general direction of his “magnetic grip”.

“Mr Nergy” Go Kevin Goh – for inspiring our team to excellence and aim for the championship with his passion and excitement for the game. Kudos also for his excellent strategy to involve every member of the team, leveraging on each member’s ability and strength to win for the team. (A practical demonstration of S.H.A.P.E in action).

Thanks also to everyone who had come to either play or support the event!

Cheers,
Chris Tan
